STUDY CHEMISTRY, TECHNOLOGY AND CIRCULAR ECONOMY IN THE CZECH REPUBLIC, SPAIN, AND FINLAND AND GET THREE DIPLOMAS AT ONCE

WHAT IS IMATEC

INTERNATIONAL MASTER IN TECHNOLOGY AND MANAGEMENT FOR CIRCULAR ECONOMY

The Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters program “International Master in Technology and Management for Circular Economy” (IMATEC) is oriented on the emerging area of circular economy and bio-economy. The two-year Master’s multiple degree programme offers high-quality vocational education, combining competencies in technology, entrepreneurship, management, planning, science, and research, all focused on circular economy.
Students will be trained in advanced technologies for sustainable use of natural resources, life cycle assessment of these technologies, as well as management and legal and administrative aspects of the circular economy. They will also gain an overview of the latest trends in the research and development of new technologies.

Students will choose their major study track and one additional study area among (1) Technology, (2) Policy and Management, or (3) – Science. The graduates will be qualified for positions in technological companies (e.g. technology suppliers, consultants, or utilities), policymaking bodies (e.g. governmental agencies or NGOs), or R&D (academia or private sector). They will also acquire presentation and managerial skills, teamwork ability, work with information resources, and communication with professionals and the public.

UNIVERSITIES

CZECH REPUBLIC | SPAIN | FINLAND

Three European universities, University of Chemistry and Technology Prague (Prague, Czech Republic)University of Oviedo (Oviedo, Spain), and Åbo Akademi University (Turku, Finland) joined to form the Erasmus Mundus consortium supported by 38 associated partners representing SMEs, large companies, NGOs, and universities that play important roles in the curriculum. The aim is to integrate the current study programs into a coherent study program dealing with technologies and management for the circular economy to provide an internationally attractive and topical Erasmus Mundus Joint Master (EMJM) program and to showcase European excellence in higher education. It addresses the current transition from linear to a circular economy that will allow meeting the objectives of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDG) and is reflected in the EU development strategies including the European Green Deal and the EU action plan for the Circular Economy.

CURRICULUM

THE FOUR SEMESTERS OF THE IMATEC PROGRAM WILL BE ORGANIZED AS FOLLOWS

The first (entry) semester will encompass basic Master level courses covering all specific aspects of the studies, i.e. chemical engineering, technologies for circular economy, entrepreneurship, economy and management aspects of circular economy as well as environmental policy making. This will allow the students to obtain fundamental background in all salient aspects of circular economy that they will use in their future studies. These courses will be provided by UCT Prague and selected from the study programs of the Faculty of Environmental Technology.

The second and third semester will be structured into three parallel study tracks focusing on technology, policy & economy/management and science aspects of circular economy. As in the first semester, also in these two semesters the students will have courses aimed at their transferable skills. The second semester courses will be given by UniOvi and the third semester courses by AAU.

The fourth semester will be devoted to Master thesis of the students and they will choose their topics in a way resulting in an approximately equal distribution of the students among the three universities. The Master thesis topics will be prepared in close collaboration between the three project partners and the associated partners, which will ensure their high topicality and industrial as well as academic relevance, thus increasing the employment possibilities of the future graduates.

WONDERING WHETHER YOU ARE ELIGIBLE TO APPLY?

Have you studied mathematics, physics, and chemistry during your Bachelor studies?

You are eligible to apply if you received at least 5 ECTS credits in mathematics, at least 5 ECTS credits in physics, and at least 20 ECTS credits in chemistry.

Students who have not studied mathematics, physics and chemistry during their Bachelor studies are NOT eligible to apply.

To calculate the number of credits, write down a list of courses in mathematics, physics, and in chemistry together with the number of credits obtained in the particular courses, and use the following formula for re-calculation:

ECTS_course = Credit_points_course * (60 * Years_of_degree)/(Total_credits_of_degree)

If still unsure, you can contact us at mundus@vscht.cz to re-confirm your calculations. In such a case, please, send us the calculation for the specific courses and also your transcript of records.
